The Adventurous Journey component of the Award requires students to embark upon a human-powered journey. These endeavours are 2-4 days long (plus Practice Journey days) depending on whether students are attempting their Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. With our extensive experience organising hikes and outdoor education programmes of all kinds across a vast range of wild destinations and working with many international schools over the years, Imagine are well placed to assist your school with these Journeys.

Camping & Navigation

Our journeys are designed to provide students with experiences that challenge and inspire.

"How we learn is how we live"

Students must guide themselves along their own Qualifying Journey, and in order for them to do so, we equip them with the training and tools needed. Imagine instructors lead sessions on map-reading and compass bearings, and the Practice Journey is the ideal time to try all of this out before the big day!

Journeys often include camping as part of the challenge, and we can provide equipment, planning, logistical support and experienced guides to ensure students have a safe yet challenging and rewarding experience.

Opening worlds to new possibilities

Our journeys offer students an opportunity to build on their past experiences and open their world to new possibilities that they can confidently strive for. For young people, experiences are valuable opportunities for expanding their knowledge and testing their abilities. They are also an excellent environment for trial and error where a safe space is provided for learners to make mistakes and refine their approaches to problem solving.

When presented with a problem in an experiential setting, people draw from a range of dynamic abilities: memory, coordination, reflexes, critical thinking, teamwork and creativity. The outcome of the experience results in greater confidence and ability the next time a challenge arises.

Outcomes

The Adventurous Journey Component of the Award is often the highlight of the DofE program. Not only is it an enjoyable and eye-opening experience, but it develops character across a wide range of areas:

EXAMPLE JOURNEY 1: KyusHU

Our Kyushu Journey takes students into a truly off-the-beaten-track mountainous region for a great challenge and incredible scenery from various peaks. With the chance to cover some serious distances, practise navigation and gain a sense of adventure, this is ideal for Silver and Gold levels.

Whether arriving internationally or from around Japan, we help your group transfer conveniently from Fukuoka, Kumamoto or Oita to the mountains.

Example Journey 2: Fuji Lakes

With the goal of navigating and hiking between two to three beautiful lakes, our Journeys with a majestic Mt. Fuji backdrop are the perfect way to get students inspired!

There are plenty of modest routes relatively close to civilisation for training and practice before heading cross country.

With large capacities and safe lakeside campsites, this is one of our top recommendations for large Bronze or Silver cohorts.

We cover a convenient 2.5hr transfer from Tokyo or Haneda Airport, making it a convenient option for domestic and international trips alike.

EXAMPLE JOURNEY 3: MITAKE / OKUTAMA

This Journey offers a unique element to get students excited for their challenge. Not only do teams hike, camp, cook and navigate independently but one leg of the journey is completed by white water rafting!

Within easy reach of Tokyo, it is another convenient option.
